Professional Qualifications for Certificated Positions
- Must hold a valid CTE certificate and Ag Science teaching license.
- Professional appearance and judgment.
- Successful teaching/student teaching experience at the high school level and/or middle school levels
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate as a team member with other staff
- Willingness to accept related duties as assigned by the Principal/ Superintendent.

Salary and Benefits
Salary: $53,294 – $98,556 per year based on education and experience, GPEA Salary Schedule
Additional pay for FFA Advisor ($6207 – $9207 depending on assigned duties). Co-Advising opportunity
Teaching Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days base contract plus professional development days
Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Garfield-Palouse Education Association (GPEA) and the Garfield and Palouse School Districts.
Nature of Work
To facilitate a successful program, a teacher in the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources department will:
- Use strategies for integrating Academic and Agriculture Education, Food, and Natural Resource Education
- Contribute to the educational objectives of the public school system by providing information to ag education, food, and natural resource students about career pathways as a guide to achieving necessary skills for continued education and employment
- Provide students with educational and equitable experiences leading to career preparation, continued education, and employment
- Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction
- Provide student with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in a global economy
- Inform students about agriculture and agriculture literacy
In order to accomplish these responsibilities, the teacher will need to invest time outside of the normal school day and during the summer.
Instructional Program
The teacher will conduct an instructional program according to the State Board of Education rules as they relate to the full scope and framework of the program being conducted. The teacher is expected to incorporate leadership, speaking, and presentation skills into all coursework.
FFA/Leadership Development
The FFA is an integral part of the Agriculture Education program at Garfield-Palouse. All Agriculture Education, Food, and Natural Resources departments are expected to have an FFA chapter. It is the duty of the teacher to serve as the advisor for the local chapter. It is necessary that the teacher spend time in planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, and cooperative activities for students at the district, area, state, and national levels. The teacher is expected to be competent in the following career development events: Soils, Agronomy, all public speaking areas, Parliamentary Procedure, Livestock, Meats
- A) Supervise Agriculture Education Programs of all students who receive instruction. This will include, but not limited to:
- Assisting students in selecting a program that fits their interests and abilities
- Maintain local records: All students in Ag Education and FFA should maintain records
- Making supervisory visits during the school and summer months
- Supervising the school laboratory (farm, feeding center, greenhouse, etc) used for students supervised agriculture experience.
- B) Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc., required by local, district, area, state and office, and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
- C) Evaluation of the Agriculture Education program and materials on an annual basis.
- Develop program goals and objectives that are challenging and attainable, aligned with District goals and objectives
- Evaluating outcomes of instruction
- Making changes and adjustments as needed in line with State and District objectives
- D) Supervise students at all off-campus activities such as conventions, fairs, contests, workshops, field trips, etc. associated with Agriculture Education and FFA program
- E) The teacher should maintain a summer program that includes FFA activities, teacher in-service, program development and educational activities. Teacher should work with administration to develop and carry out these programs.
- F) The Agriculture Education teacher is expected to cooperate fully with local administration, GarPal staff, local and county agriculture organizations and local advisory committee.

Agriculture Teacher, Wapato School District
Purpose Statement
The job of Agriculture Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by
serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other
assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group an individual student instruction within
established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and
administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of
inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
Essential Functions
- Actively participate in CTE Advisory Meetings for the purpose of obtaining industry input on courses and
fulfilling CTE requirements. - Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address
individualized learning plans within established lesson plans. - Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, other student assesments
for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans. - Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating
expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing
classroom goals in the home environment. - Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing
feedback to students, parents and administration. - Assignment could include but are not limited to CASE Plant Science, Horticulture, Greenhouse,
Floriculture, and Agriculture Mechanics and other potential CASE courses for the purpose of instructing
students. Being CASE Certified or willing to become certified preferred. - Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community
resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established
classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. - Controls the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse for the
purpose of using resources efficiently. - Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture resale accounts for classroom and
shop supplies for the purpose of using resources efficiently. - Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, transportation, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of
ensuring the availability of equipment, materials and personnel to achieve objectives. - Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the
purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements. - Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers
for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual
students. - Establishes and maintains standards of purpil conduct for the purpose of providing an orderly, safe and
productive environment in an activity-type classroom with man potential hazards. - Implements academic and student behavior management (e.g. literacy activities, stories, songs,
math/science activities, art, behavior expectation and behavior monitoring, PBIS, etc.) for the purpose of
ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, established guidelines, and performance standards
and encouraging parent involvement. - Instructs students for the purpose of learning the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation
of use of tools, machinery, and equipment. - Knowledge and ability to design and implement curriculum for the purpose of establishing competencies
regarding biology, reading, writing and math requirements as well as OSPI approved Agricultural
Science Curriculum Frameworks. - Knowledge in agriculture production and greenhouse management for the purpose of instructing
students. - Maintains contracts with the business community for the purpose of keeping informed of new
innovations and job requirements which must be reflected in the curriculum in order to develop,
marketable skills as required by prospective employers. - Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating
appropriate social and interpersonal behavior. - Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.)
for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. - Organizes age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the purpose of ensuring student participation
in learning activities. - Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. parent, building wide, team sessions, specific focus
committees, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform
functions. - Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, framework
documents, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements. - Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose
of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to
Education Code and school policies. - Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the
purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction. - Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or
directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. - Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established
curriculum and/or individual student plans. - Track and manage the budget for the agricultural program each year for the purpose of using resources
efficiently.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in
order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the
functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using
pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 20% walking,
and 60% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free
environment.
